I have been running this private drop-in in the comfortable surroundings of my house since September 2009. An IBCLC Lactation Consultant or Breastfeeding Counsellor is allocated to each mother and baby, and she will spend as long as necessary with them.
In addition, we have a cranial osteopath available for any baby who might benefit from a gentle treatment. Research shows the osteopathy coupled with breastfeeding support improves breastfeeding outcomes: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28027445/
Feedback from mums who have attended the drop-in clinic
"I went to Cordelia's drop in a few times and upon leaving, I always felt that my milk supply had somehow magically increased and I left feeling part of a community.”
- Sarah
“You have been such a huge support Cordelia Uys. When I visited your dro- in, I was in a bit of a fragile state, fragile but determined. I think I was one of the first to arrive and I was definitely the last to leave! You were so patient. Emily was great, Yvonne Insh you were amazing! You stayed on a little later for us when you were ready to pack up for the day. I got some fantastic help from Sherridan who made me feel so much more confident with different nursing positions. You women are amazing! 9 months on this is a delayed thank you but I really wanted to let you know how much you helped me. I'm so glad I found your drop in.”
- Leanne
“I came to the drop in when my baby Poppy was 3 weeks old and eventually had her tongue tie cut at 6 weeks old. Tomorrow she will be 6 months old and I’m proud to say I’m still exclusively breastfeeding her! I was just feeding her now and felt really emotional about how far we’d come and so I just wanted to email to let you know and to thank you for all the support at the drop in when I was really struggling and in so much pain. It was the most lovely community to come into and it made me feel like everything was going to be ok. (And all the tea and chocolate digestives were great too!) I never thought I’d end up enjoying breastfeeding but now it’s just as I had hoped - easy and lovely and I certainly didn’t think I’d be wanting to carry on after 6 months, which I now am. It was definitely a challenge at the start but oh my goodness I’m so pleased I stuck with it and Poppy is doing really well”.
- Georgie
“Thank you for an incredibly informative and supportive time on Tuesday me and my mum felt so well looked after and imbued with confidence. Juliette clearly had a lovely day out socialising as well :) I will pop back in on Tuesday to have Juliette weighed and I would also like to learn new and improve on my latch technique to try my very best with breastfeeding.”
- Genevieve
“It was fantastic to visit you on Tuesday Cordelia - the most valuable thing we have done so far with our baby. Thank you so much. It was also a very special time for us as a family. Jenni and I have been enjoying breastfeeding even more thanks to your guidance and confidence, and we gained so much for your expertise. Once again, we really appreciate your care. Best wishes”
- Henrietta, Joe and Jenni
"I thought I'd send you a quick update on Matthew's progress. He had his 6-8 week check-up this afternoon and now weighs 5kg and is growing, as he should. Once he got the hang of breastfeeding, he didn't look back! Thank you again for your (and the team's) help and support. We would not have got where we are today without it.”
- Ruth
“Just wanted to write a little note to say Thank You! for the great work everyone does at the drop in on Tuesdays. I don't have enough words to thank you all for the tremendous work you do around moms and babies - feeling very grateful to be part of them. Keep the good work going! BIG THANKS!!!”
- Lorena
“Just wanted to send you a quick note to say how beneficial it was for me to come to the drop-in session yesterday. Angie really took the time to listen and offered both encouragement and helpful advice. Without her talking me through the thrush treatment I needed I never would have insisted on getting another GP appointment for later that afternoon. She also gave me the knowledge and confidence to insist that I was given a prescription which the GP reluctantly agreed to, and I am already starting to feel a bit better…I have fed my baby three times today without crying in pain.”
- Helen
“Dear Cordelia, Carol, Joanna, Emily, Ali and Angie, we wanted to say a huge thank you to each of you for all the support and nurturing that you have given us. It’s an amazing and unique space that you’ve created, offering such personalised and holistic care. I really enjoyed the Tuesdays I spent with you and other mums, and Evan and I may just come along again to say hello. Now that feeding is going well, it is so enjoyable. Our milky cuddles offer such special time with my son, which we could have easily missed out on without the help from you all. Many thanks again and keep up the fantastic work!”
- Sarah
“Thank you for all your wonderful advice and support at ‘Boob Camp’ – we would never have managed without you! Much love, gratitude and admiration from Hannah and Kit.”
- Hannah
“Yesterday, Dylan and I were discussing how fortunate we were to come to your house and turn the 'breastfeeding nightmare' into pure joy! Thank you so much because both Freddie and I thrived after our visits.”
- Virginia
“Dear Cordelia and Sherridan, I was truly at the end of my tether when I came to you, and you gave me SO much of your time. As a paediatric medical professional myself, I had tried everything and I didn’t know where to go next. Thank goodness I came to you when I did. You will never know how much you helped me and my baby.”
- Pascale
"If it wasn't for the drop-In, I would have given up on breastfeeding when my son was two weeks old. When I turned up at the drop-In, I was dreading every painful feed. My newborn had a very strong preference for one side and a tongue tie which had caused a lot of damage to my nipples. At the drop-In I was gently taught: how to properly latch my baby; different positions that would ease my discomfort; the consequences of a tongue tie and what could be done about it; and how to heal the damage caused by a poor latch. Most importantly for me I was comforted, calmed and encouraged. It was just what I needed. Six months later we are still blissfully breastfeeding and have no intention of stopping any time soon!"
- Anon
“Your drop-in clinic is fabulous, so lovely and calm. The atmosphere is wonderful. Thank you so much. Anna was so helpful and really boosted my confidence and helped me with a better latch and new position. I wish I could be there every week!”
- Julia
“It is an amazing thing you've created in the breastfeeding drop-in, aside from the breastfeeding help itself, it is so healing in the weeks after birth to be able to go somewhere where you are surrounded by warm, gentle, knowledgeable women. So thank you! Many thanks & all best,”
- Kate
“Thank you for Tuesday, it was so helpful. Would you please pass my thanks to Sheridan too? Since leaving your house we haven't used nipple shields at all! Totally chuffed to bits. I will definitely come again another Tuesday. It’s amazing what you & your team offer & it was great to be surrounded by such lovely people in your house.”
- Clare
“We were so well looked after by you all and left your home feeling better physically and emotionally. Each individual practitioner was so kind, caring, knowledgeable and informative. We were given so much individual attention and really feel that we are now on the right pathway with breastfeeding. I would not hesitate to recommend your clinic and hope to pop by again soon to see you all.”
- Louise
“Hi Cordelia, just a quick message to say thank you to you and the whole team at the breastfeeding clinic. The environment of support and the help with positioning, general advice and the tongue tie procedure have all helped us and we've seen a definite improvement in the last week. Anyway, thank you again.”
- Aarti
“Thanks to you and the team for all your collective wisdom and support. It really is an amazing service you offer, extremely welcoming, helpful and relaxing. Mum and I were saying on the way back how fantastic (and sadly unusual) it is to go somewhere where people make real time to really listen and support others, and what a difference it makes! “
- Maya
“I got so much out of coming to the drop-in and found it so helpful and a lovely supportive environment.”
- Bella
“We found the drop-in to be a very welcoming, peaceful environment and a good opportunity to get advice and speak with other new parents. It is great work that you do.”
- Rachel
"I would like to thank you and your team for the peaceful and comforting atmosphere that you created for me last Tuesday. For me it was like being in a new dimension and I can't wait to be back next week. You’ve created a very special environment.”
- Sophie
“Thanks for the huge improvement in breastfeeding and for your help, it made such a difference.
I was amazed by how relaxed I felt after I left you guys... you all emanate amazing great vibes and the atmosphere there is always so great. I came in tense and came out so relaxed and so did Alice. Huge thanks.”
- Marta (2nd time mum)
“I wanted to thank you for your help since my breastfeeding start had been a bit rocky and I am not sure I would have persevered without the drop-in support”.
- Domiane
“Hello Cordelia, it seems like yesterday but at the same time a lifetime ago that we were at your house exhausted and nervous. We had Matilda’s tongue tie divided and we have not looked back. That was in May and she is now six and a half months old. She loves her milk and is now a Roly Poly baby. I have fallen in love with breastfeeding! (If someone has told me I would 6 months ago I would have found it hard to believe!)”
- Natasha
‘Thank you so much for hosting the wonderful clinic at your house, I imagine it gets very busy every Tuesday! I am so grateful for the opportunity to get some proper help. Everyone genuinely wants to help and is so lovely and warm, what a lovely way to spend the morning.’
- Delaine
“I wanted to say thank you for yesterday again. Sherridan was just amazing and really helped so much both physically and emotionally. If this works it will be truly transformative for both Gracie and me. It was such a wonderful atmosphere at your house as well, so supportive, safe and happy. And so many experts in one place! To be able to have cranial osteopathy then and there was amazing. It is a wonderful thing you are doing and I can see how many hundreds of people you are helping.”
- Gabby
“I want to say a HUGE thank you for all you do for the breastfeeding ladies of London. Coming to your lovely drop-in has been amazing, and is the only thing that has kept me going this long. What I really love about your clinic is the warm, loving, non-judgemental atmosphere that is created by your beautiful home and the ladies that come to help. I never felt rushed and Sherridan and Lynn always took as long as I felt I needed to get back on track.”
- Amy
“I wanted to thank Carol for the session two weeks ago with my husband, baby Ava and me. Since attending Ava has managed to successfully latch on and particularly in the last several days has taken breast only. We had a hard first few days in the hospital where the health professionals we encountered clearly didn't have the time or patience to help us breastfeed and it was frustrating, and I felt disappointed I couldn't breastfeed. A friend of mine described the drop-in as life changing, and she was really right. I would recommend anyone who wants to breastfeed to attend the drop-in as soon as they can after the birth of their baby. My husband, Ava and I want to thank Carol very much. It could have been so easy to give up but because of Carol I'm now able to breastfeed my baby, whilst bonding and giving her the best possible start.”
- Simone
“Thank you so much for today's breastfeeding clinic. It is wonderful that you open up your home to so many mothers in need of help and guidance. The atmosphere was so caring and friendly. Thank you! We saw Angie who was incredibly lovely and very helpful. I hope we can be successful in following her advice. So many mothers today were returning to your clinic so maybe we will need to again at some point...”
- Alice
“Dear Cordelia, I just wanted to say a big thank you to you and your team for the amazing service and 'clinic' you run every Tuesday. All the information I got today will be very helpful for the coming months.”
- Suzanne
“I have never seen so much care, nurturing and attention devoted to (infant) feeding”
- Mother of four
“We had such a wonderful day today - the environment and atmosphere that you and the other ladies created was just so lovely…You are a really amazing, special bunch of people who instantly made us feel welcome, safe and happy.”
- Rachel
“What you have created is exceptional support and generally an amazing place for a new mum struggling with breastfeeding to be!!”
- Larisa
“It was a joy and privilege to be at your house on Tuesday, you create such a inspiring and productive space for new families.”
- Abby
“Thank you for providing such a wonderful service to moms in need!”
- Vicky
“I just wanted to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to the team. Felix and I now find breastfeeding an absolute pleasure. I'm sure without the guidance and help we received at the drop in this would not have been the case! He's growing well and has shot from the 50th percentile in height to the 98th! Already out growing 3-6 month clothes!! The drop-in really was a life-saver for me in those first three weeks!”
- Polly
Feedback from dads who attended the clinic
“Thank you so very much for welcoming us so warmly and helpfully on Tuesday. We really feel your clinic was a godsend.”
- Jonathan
“Just a follow-up to say thank you to all of you for your immaculate professional care and warm hospitality during what has been a tough fortnight for us. Your drop in has been a wonderful resource these past two weeks, Cordelia. It has been transformative for us.”
- John
“From a new father’s perspective I found the drop- in session invaluable to understand that the challenges faced with breastfeeding (doubts on the amount of milk taken by the baby, adjustments in positioning, regularity of the feedings etc) as well as the associated emotions were all 'normal' - and provided me with a better understanding in how best to support both mother and child through what is both one of the most challenging but also rewarding periods together. Thank you so much to you and the other drop- in advisers for having helped us during this period.”
- Richard
